Tuberous perennial from Mexico formerly known as S. Sp. 'Michoacan Blue' but now tentatively identified as S. clinopodioides. An interesting plant with royal blue flowers in large whorls from September onwards. The first heavy frosts will cut it back to the ground, but on well-drained soil it is proving to be borderline hardy. Underground suckers emerge from the tubers in June.
On heavier soils best grown in a pot and kept frost-free in winter.
